EMDR for children and adolescents
EMDR is recognised as an effective therapy also for children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events and PTSD by the World Health Organization (2013), as well as by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS, 2018).
It is very common for children and adolescents to feel distressed following a trauma. In most cases symptoms improve within a few weeks. A small percentage of children and adolescents will go on to develop symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as other symptoms such as anxiety or hopelessness. Some children and adolescents may benefit from receiving therapeutic support to recover from the trauma and EMDR is one such therapy that help. EMDR has also shown to help children and adolescents with a range of other psychological difficulties, including anxiety and depression.
